My 5e-fhe Sportif

Post by ep91chris on Thu Mar 21, 2013 10:23 am

Heres My build thread, it is copied from another forum I'm on so maybe a bit out of date.

OK so I though it was about time I created a thread as I have some big plans for over the next couple of months, while I have no License

I bought the car last September (2010) with 80K miles when I passed my test.

The bought the car like this:

The spec was:

Rota Slip Streams 15inch
Lowered 60mm
Circuit sports lug nuts
Remus Back Box
Clear indicators
Unknown induction kit.

Just before Christmas the engine started to lose oil pressure on tick over, then the oil pressure switch went and ended up spinning the No3 crank shell

The car had to come off the road for 3 weeks while a mate put a new engine in.

Once the car was back on the road I decided it was time for an ICE upgrade Very Happy

I fitted a 12inch Alpine type D12 800w sub, 2x pioneer Kevlar 6x9s, 2x sony explode 6x9s

Once again i had a problem with the car Sad was on my way to work and completely out of the blue, bang the exhaust fell off. I took this as an opportunity to upgrade and got a custom stainless exhaust made.

After doing nothing to the car for a while I decided to dress up the engine bay a bit. I got some Autobahn silicone radiator hoses form a local breakers, Painted and polished the rocker cover and added a cold air feed to my induction kit. I also purchased a cheap strut brace from eBay

After this I finally started to look into tuning the car, so I got my self on to this. Having a look around I seen the Corolla mani seemed quite a popular mod so i got one, Along with so red HT leads HKS SPF reloaded, an alloy pipe from RW and some reservoir socks.

I bought an aftermarket rev counter but looked a bit tacky so I purchased some Paseo dials

Here's a few random pics

***Updates***

This arrived today Very Happy

Engine arrived today along with a remix bumper.. Its a 5e-fhe out of a '93 Sera that's done 65,000km.

While I'm here I though I may aswell throw up a few pictures of parts I've gathered.

CJ Performance light weight pulleys.

Grooved Discs, Also have green stuff pads to on.

HEL Braided Brake Lines

Glow Shift 7 colour gauges

Tegiwa Torque Damper

brake cylinder stopper

Ultra Racing Front strut Brace

Rays Engineering Lug Nuts

Toyo Proxies

JVC Head Unit and also carbon wrapped the surround

Work is beginning Tuesday

Work was supposed to begin today, however when I took the cam cover off I found this.

Was susposed to be a straight swap, however the engine is doing under going a full rebuild and good spring clean.

Calipers, Discs and Drums

Update time, I have been working away at the car over the last month or so, just haven't bother to update.

I made din holder for my gauges out of an old number plate and some carbon wrap, looks great.

While the engine was away supposedly being rebuilt I concentrated on painting up parts of the engine.

Intake manifold:

Fuel Rail:

Power Steering pump:

Alternator:

Thermostat housing

I also mounted a Tomei RRFPR

While the old engine was away I mocked up the new exhaust system, as the manifold ran from the block to the cat part of the old exhaust would need chopped off and a flange welded on.

NB. spark plug holes make excellent injector holders lol

Got the news 3 weeks ago that my engine would be back at the weekend, so I got the old engine pulled out ready for the rebuilt engine to go back in...

So got to the Friday and my Dad phoned the engine builder and they said it would be ready for another week, by this time I was starting to crack up so we went to see the progress that had been made. The engine hadn't been touched in the 2 months it had been there. So my Dad and I decided we would build it ourselves.

Cams out, let the cleaning commence.

After a good couple of hours cleaning the head we decided the definitely need skimmed so that is going off this weekend for a skim and chemical clean.

This week

Finished painting the block and beginning to reassemble.

A few goodies arried during the week Very Happy

Engine back from machine shop.
1. Stage 2 head port and polish
2. Over sized valves fitted
3. Complete head rebuild, valve stem oil seals, re shimmed etc
4. Head skimmed to maximum compression
5. Bores re honed
6. Crank lightened and balanced
7. All bearings replaced
8. Flywheel lightened and balanced
9. High light cams fitted

Still not finished - encountered a few problems along the way, still progress is finally being made.

After no updates for 3 weeks, the car is finally running.

On the crane about to go in

Picked this up for £60.00 compared to the usual £350.00 - A full japspeed stainless system

Finally in

Got the brakes all sorted so all I need now is hopefully a MOT and Tax.

I changed the colour of the rocker cover too. Colour coded it with the body.

Next plans are:
Blue ignition leads to match the hoses
Some bride seats
Full respray
Alloy wheel refurb
Crystal fogs for the remix bumper
Crystal Head lights

And that shout be it.

Had a load of problems with this, but all is sorted now.

Here's some videos.

Let me know what yous think!

Chris.

I'm chasing the most powerful n/a e-series title, which is 124bhp. Once I've got that, and more funds I intended to forged with a WEPR Godzilla kit
